Principal and Director of Research

James graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BSc Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence in 1999, and was awarded a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Birmingham in 2004.  Prior to joining CNELM, James was an independent research consultant and worked in industry as a senior research scientist. 

James leads the Centre’s research programme, collaborating with other research institutions to develop computational and statistical techniques applicable to evidence based personalised nutrition. He oversees all research orientated modules on the BSc Nutritional Science and MSc Personalised Nutrition, leads the Research Supervisors, and teaches on these modules. James is a member of the Senior Management and Senior Academic Teams.
