Research Interests

Circadian rhythms and Nutrition, Obesity, Optimal nutrition for Seniors

Marina Mastrostefano has been lecturing and writing extensively in the field of food economics and nutrition for over 40 years.

From 1983 until 1986 she has been Assistant Professor for the the university of Rome “La Sapienza”. In 1986 she won a competition for a Senior researcher/Professor position at the University of Cassino, Italy where she continued teaching and tutoring until 2000 on the following subjects: Food production, GMO, Quantitative estimates of Demand and Supply of Agricultural products, International Trade of agricultural products. She was appointed faculty member and jury member for course examinations and final dissertations. She has been Senior Member / Project Manager for several research projects founded by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and the European Union.

From 1990 until 1992 she took sabbatical leave to be visiting scholar at the University of California – Davis where she has been working on the project “Agribusiness and the US -EC agricultural trade policy”. Her work was published and then presented at the IATRIC conference (Capri, June 2003).

From 2000 until 2018 she has been working as policy analyst and senior economist for the Institutions of the European Union – EU Commission, Directorate General for Agriculture/Regional Policies – achieving a wide experience of the European food health related issues, from GMO to organic food.

She obtained a BSc (Hons) and a MSc (Distinction) at the College for Nutritional Education and Lifestyle Management (CNELM) where she is currently collaborating as Research Supervisor and Advisor on Student Project Publication. She is also offering educational advice about healthy eating, food and nutrition for schools and groups of elderly in Italian, English, and French.

In the last decade her research in the field of nutrition has been presented at several congresses of the European Association on Obesity – EASO (Liverpool 2013 – Sofia 2014 – Prague 2015) and to the International bariatric Conference (Dubai 2015) and published in peer reviewed international journals.

She currently does voluntary work at the St. Luc University Hospital in Brussels as a nutritionist and attends a two-year degree course in herbal medicine.

She is Senior Associate Member of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) and an accredited NLP practitioner.
